Driver’s Education |

This course will include thirty (30) hours of classroom instruction and six (6) hours of driving instruction as required by Georgia State Law to complete the Driver’s Education Certificate. Students completing this course are eligible for reduced insurance rates with most insurance companies. Skills and attitudes necessary for defensive driving will be stressed. Students MUST attend all 30 hours of classroom instruction and ALL 6 hours of driving instruction to pass the course. Participants must have some driving experience and a valid Driver’s Permit (Learner’s License) to be eligible. Parents must provide a copy of a current auto insurance card at first class. Please bring paper and pencil to class. Classroom materials will be provided. Please consult your tax advisor for the Georgia Tax Credit for Driver Education Class. Completion of this course provides 20 hours supervised driving experience of the required 40 hours supervised driving experience required by the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety’s New Teenage Driving Requirements. SAT Prep Course |

East Georgia College will offer the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Math and Verbal Review on Tuesday nights beginning September 30 thru October 28, 2003 in the Richard L. Brown Room of the Student Center on the campus of East Georgia College. The S.A.T. Verbal review class will meet from 6:15 P.M. until 7:15 P.M. followed by the S.A.T. Paralegal Certificate Course Designed for the beginning as well as the advanced legal worker, this course is an intensive six weekend program including 84 hours of instruction. Students will be trained to assist trial attorneys by conducting witness interviews, investigating complex fact patterns, conduct research and assisting in the preparation of cases for trial. There are no prerequisites but students will be expected to complete a significant amount of homework per session. Upon successful completion of the course a certificate will be awarded. ADMINISTRATIVE
MEDICAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE
Students interested in employment opportunities in medical administration especially in a physician’s setting, can prepare themselves by taking this sequenced curriculum. The Administrative Medical Assistant Certificate program consists of the following course sequence: Medical Terminology (36 hours/3.6 CEU’s); Administrative Medical Office Procedure (39 hours/3.9 CEU’s); Confidentiality and Legal Issues in the Medical Office (36 hours/3.6 CEU’s). At the end of each course you will receive a completion certificate, provided you have attended 80% of the classes scheduled. If you complete all three classes, you will have 111 total hours of instruction. Each course has required quizzes and/or exit exam which must be completed to receive a certificate. For those not interested in pursuing the certificate, each course listed below is stand alone course, open to any interested student. |
Medical Terminology
This course used medical prefixes and suffixes to aid in understanding medical terms, procedures and diagnoses. Learn to define medical terms by dividing them into their most basic elements and how to recognize frequently used diagnostic tests, procedures and medicines. Emphasis is on the various body systems throughout the course. This a foundational course. Textbook: Medical Terminology for Health Professionals is available in the EGC bookstore. Legal Aspects for
the Medical Office & HIPPA Privacy
This course will walk you through legal and privacy issues from the exam room to the courtroom and will include functioning within the legal system, legal intent, contracts, anatomy of a medical malpractice case, the business of healthcare, the medical record, responsibility of the medical assistant, introduction to ethics, and privacy, confidentiality and privileged communication. Advanced Adult Fitness This course is a continuation of the Introduction to Adult Fitness class and offers participants extended hours. Participants will begin a personal fitness program anew or continue the personal fitness program designed in the prior class. Beginning Guitar This course is designed for those who want to learn how to play the guitar. Students will learn how to tune an acoustic guitar, correct hand and body position, basic chord structure and guitar maintenance. Simple songs will also be practiced. Photography 101
This is a basic course that will introduce you to digital techniques and digital photography. Microsoft Photoshop will be used to illustrate photo download, retrieval and editing. Scanner technology will also be discussed and demonstrated. Printing techniques will also be demonstrated if time permits. Students may bring a digital camera to class. Healthy Vegetarian Cooking & Tasting
This two series cooking class will teach you the basics of vegetarian cooking. Vegetarian nutrition and diet will also be discussed. You will be introduced to tasty, low fat vegetable products and learn the secrets to healthy meat substitution. A cooking demonstration will show you how to prepare tantalizing dishes to impress your friends and family! River
Watch Training
Become a certified stream monitor! Learn how to monitor rivers and streams using chemical and biological techniques. This short course consists of 3 consecutive sessions, approximately 3 hours each, which combine classroom and field learning for a fun and educational experience. Teachers attending all 3 sessions can receive 1 SDU credit. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers to learn how to lead their students in field studies relating to stream ecology and water quality. This fun and informative seminar will provide helpful tips and hints on holiday decorating, entertaining, gift wrapping ideas spiced with a heaping dose of humor. Our presenter, Mark Allen Ballard, known to television viewers as “The Artist™”, has combined his incredible artistic talent with a marvelous sense of humor to amaze and entertain. He is a noted author and columnist of Blossoms & Bees, Peaches & Poundcakes, published in 1999 and now in its fifth printing. His second book featuring stories of growing up and living in the South, Colorful Comedies and Creative Celebrations, A Lighter Look at Life as Told by a Raised Right Southern Gentleman, was published in 2000. Mark’s advise column on decorating, entertaining and crafts is featured weekly in the Macon Telegraph and in each issue of Macon Magazine. Release of his newest book is planned for mid-2003. Mark is a talented artist and designer. In addition to one-dimensional paintings, Mark is known for his exquisite painted furniture, lamps, porcelains and fabrics. Amicalola Falls and State Park |

Len Foote Hike—Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning tumbling waters, is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls the tallest east of the Mississippi River. Len Foote Hike is entirely within the Chattahoochee National Forest and Amicalola Falls State Park. Join Dianna Wedincamp for an invigorating hike to the top of the mountain where the Amicalola Falls begin. The distance markers along the way indicate interesting features and flora on the Trail, so be sure to refer to the literature provided when you check in at the Park Visitors Center. This is a hike in and hike out trip. Tents may be available if you do not have one. You only need to bring your personal items, including food, tent, layered clothing, hiking boots, extra socks, rain gear, toiletries, water (for the trail), sunscreen, insect repellent, first aid kit and flashlight.
