GREDC Grants

The purpose of the program is to provide grants for economic development research and initiatives to the rural, economically challenged areas of Georgia (Normally Tier 1 or 2 Counties).  Priority is given to innovative projects that lead directly to job creation/retention, business development for low and moderate income citizens, joint projects by multiple communities or authorities, and to projects that can be easily replicated in other rural communities.  Applicants should note that a proposed initiative or research project should promote economic strength, as well as develop innovative, practical strategies that promote sustained growth for their communities.

NOTE:

Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants are local governments, registered authorities, non-profit organizations and educational institutions.   Joint and regional applications between multiple cities, counties and unincorporated areas, economic development authorities and nonprofits are encouraged.  For profit organizations are not eligible.

Eligible Projects

GREDC grants for economic development initiatives or research may be awarded to the above Eligible Applicants for:

(a)  Local government leadership training and evaluation

(b)  Local government policy and program evaluation and reform

(c)  Strategy testing for economic development initiatives

(d)  Any initiative or research which will build strength and solidarity among local leadership, and position the community to attract and retain new business or encourage entrepreneurship

(e)  Projects which facilitate economic competitiveness, such as infrastructure development (Studies only-does not include capital improvements), workforce development and small business development when necessary for technological  modernization and innovation and/or improved quality of life.

(f)  Programs or projects that address healthcare worker shortages in rural Georgia.

**THE GREDC GRANT PROGRAM FOR FY 2009 HAS BEEN SUSPENDED DUE TO BUDGET CUTS-PLEASE KEEP CHECKING BACK!** 

Grant restrictions have changed and grants will be considered only for projects that produce a model program easily replicated in other rural Georgia communities.
